CHANDELIERS, NICHELL TAYLOR BRYANT SPARKLE IN CARNEGIE HALL REDUX

NEW YORK – June 13, 2008 – It was an elegant night of song, artistry and standing ovations Friday for lyric soprano Nichell Taylor Bryant, who returned to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall for the first time since her successful 2006 debut at the venue.  She was joined by acclaimed pianist Jad Bernardo.

Also superbly accompanied on selected songs by classical guitarist Nilko Andreas and clarinetist Christopher Rohrs, Ms. Taylor Bryant performed a 90-minute program of music from baroque to modern under the theme celebrating God's divinity and exploring life's tapestry.  The arias and songs were selected as much for their engaging, historic, and sometimes compelling, lyrics as for being pleasing to the ear.  The English art songs The Breath of a Rose and Joy, with texts directly from the poetry of Langston Hughes, are ideal illustrations.  The full recital featured music composed by Ernest Charles, Claude Debussy, Manuel de Falla, Gabriel Fauré, George Frideric Handel, Lee Hoiby, Franz Schubert and William Grant Still, and spirituals arranged by Harry T. Burleigh and Hall Johnson.

Ms. Taylor Bryant began singing in childhood and continued as a teen in church, school, choral and solo competitions, and her community.  She credits Lowell Lampkin of South Florida and Bernice Satterwhite of Westchester in New York for setting her musical foundations. In 1997, while maintaining a busy media career, she chose to the route of private formal classical vocal training and music study, first with Dr. Stanley L. Ralph of Westbury, N.Y., then with her current coach, world-class soprano Dr. Mareda Gaither Graves of White Plains, N.Y.  Jad Bernardo, who also is an active vocal coach in New York, tirelessly helped Ms. Taylor Bryant prepare for this recital.

Ms. Taylor Bryant has sung for audiences throughout the Northeast, the South, and South America, and as part of the music ministry at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Roosevelt, N.Y. A publicist and former journalist, Ms. Taylor Bryant, holds a B.A. in Mass Media Arts/Journalism from Clark Atlanta University.  A native of New Rochelle, N.Y., having lived many years in South Florida and Atlanta, she lives on Long Island with husband Calvin Bryant.
